What is nutrition all about?

Nutrition can be broken down into two main aspects; macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients.

Macro-nutrients include carbohydrates, fats and proteins. The things that our bodies need in larger amounts.  Every "body" is different and your needs for various nutrients will vary over your lifetime.  For example, men have different needs to women, but not all men will need the same balance of nutrients.  It depends on their age, activity levels, height and current weight.  Similarly, women will have differing needs to other women, this is further complicated by various life stages; pregnancy, post-partum/breast feeding, perimenopausal, post menopausal.  Is it any wonder we're so confused about what and how much to eat!?

Micro-nutrients include all the other fun stuff like vitamins and minerals.  The things that our bodies need in small amounts.
